Courses

-Ology

ages 13-16 (gr.8-10)

Course Description:

Join us each week as we pick a different -ology to explore each month! Over the 5 months of the semester, we will pick 5 very diverse -ologies to explore across both science and social science. To prepare for class each week, you will be required to do one of three things: watch a movie, listen to a podcast, or watch a documentary. All movies and documentaries will be chosen with those sensitive to excessive tension in mind. Movies will typically be PG-13 and never over a 14 rating. Please note that there may be swearing, sexual innuendo etc. in any of the media with these ratings (documentary, movie, and podcast).

Schedule and Cost:

Day: Monday

Time: 7pm-8pm ET

NOTE: This class includes an optional 8-9pm ET unsupervised social time.

Semester 2 Dates: February 7, 2022 June 20, 2022 (16 weeks – No classes: Feb 21, Apr 18, May 23, and May 30)

Payment: This course will have a unique monthly payment option – enabling teens to register for an -Ology month for $55/month. There is also a discounted $250 rate if registering for the 16 week semester before the start of the semester. As usual, registration is complete and your student’s spot reserved only when payment has been received. Anyone registered in a given month will have the first opportunity to register for the following month, before new students, in order to encourage a consistent social group for everyone.

For Tuition Fees, Code of Conduct, and all the details, see THE FINE PRINT.

Required Homework:

Each week, you will be required to do ONE of three things:

Watch a movie (typically in the 2 hour range);

Listen to a one hour podcast; or

Watch a documentary (typically an hour long – but occasionally documentaries run an hour and a half to two hours).

All movies and documentaries will be chosen with those sensitive to excessive tension in mind. Movies will typically by PG-13 and never over a 14 rating. Please note that there may be swearing, sexual innuendo, etc. in any of the media with these sorts of ratings (documentary, movie and podcast).

Course Materials:

There may be costs associated with accessing the documentaries and movies, depending on where they can be found. I will not choose any given movie or documentary whose cost exceeds $10 for the ‘rental’.
