For learners who want to know all the things about all the things!
Join us each week as we stream a short video and then dive in to explore the content. Over the course of the semester, we will dive into different types of activities triggered by the different videos, including explorations of: social issues, social science topics, science topics, and so much more.
Class is followed by a half hour of optional, supervised social time.
As this age group does best with structured social time on Zoom, we will be continuing with a range of games and sharing during this social time.
Additional details:
A parent of students in the class explained the course this way: “It’s a discussion based class that takes deep dives into a wide range of topics. They usually start by watching video or two on the topic. Eliyanah shares information and resources, and then the kids’ curiosity leads the way. It’s a great space for curious kids that want to know all the things about all the things. The topics are a mix of things Eliyanah plans and things the kids request, and have included things like word origins, unusual Lego uses including using LEGO in the context of disability (as a prosthetic limb and braille blocks), periodic table, and Miyawaki Forests. It’s really a class of introducing interesting topics and then “following the rabbit trails” with Eliyanah following the kids’ curiosity. Last year she introduced a video exploring archaeology in connection with Indigenous pottery traditions of a tribe in Canada. That led to a student wondering about the history of pottery around the world, so the next class they explored that topic.”
