CODE OF CONDUCT

Student Code of Conduct

By Registering for an Elex Learning course, you and your student agree to all of the following terms.

Please go over this with your student before emailing your Code of Conduct. Clear expectations are critical to student success.

  • I, __________________ (student’s first name), CHOOSE to be in the Elex Learning course(s) for which I am registering.
  • I will meet the age requirement of the course by September 1, 2025 OR I have sought and received an exception.
  • I realize that I am taking one of the limited spots in this course and promise to use it to the best of my ability.
  • I understand that the course times are listed in EASTERN time. Note that Elex Learning follows Daylight Savings time, so you will need to adjust your local times when North America “springs forward” or “falls back.”
  • I agree to abide to the one rule for all Elex Learning courses which is Respect.

To respect my peers, the teacher, the learning and myself:

  • I will attend class in a calm, quiet area of my house without a virtual background to allow myself and others to best focus on the class.
  • I will respect each individual’s unique expression of humanity: their age, shape, size, colour, sexual orientation, gender identity, faith, neurodiversity, etc.
  • I will complete all of the assigned homework prior to each class and come to class prepared with my materials organized.
  • I am willing to have my camera on, and to ask/answer questions and fully participate in class discussions or I have discussed and received permission for accommodations.
  • I will not multi-task during class but will give the class my full, undivided attention.
  • I will join the Zoom meeting FIVE MINUTES BEFORE class so that the teacher can admit the entire class from the waiting room together. If there is an emergency or unavoidable conflict which prevents me from attending, I will email the teacher prior to class.
  • I understand that no official grade or credit will be given for this course.
  • I understand that my completion of homework assignments is required for the learning and enjoyment of myself and of the entire group. If I have not completed the assigned homework, I may be withdrawn from the class with no refund.
  • I understand that I may be removed from the class for disruptive behaviour or not fulfilling the terms of the Code of Conduct. I may be withdrawn from the class with no refund if the issues persist.
  • Cyberbullying (definition here: https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/ntnl-scrt/cbr-scrt/cbrbllng/prnts/cbrbllng-en.aspx) of any kind is strictly forbidden and will result in immediate expulsion with no refund.

FOR THE RESPONSIBLE ADULT (PARENT/GUARDIAN ETC.):

    • Depending on the age and executive function skills of your student, the extent to which your assistance is required for these tasks will vary widely. I, __________________ (student’s parent’s/adult’s first name), agree to be available to assist my student during class as required. If required, I will check that my student completes all assignments before class, will check that my student has their materials and is ready to go 5 minutes BEFORE class begins, will assist my student with any technical/computer/other problems that arise during class, and will keep an eye on my student to ensure that they give the course their undivided attention during class.
    • ***NEW***I, __________________ (student’s parent’s/adult’s first name), give permission to Elex Learning to share the first name and email addresses of my student with the other members of each class for which my student is registered so that they or their adults are able to organize to connect learners outside of class time if they so desire. Class emails will be sent using cc: (not bcc:). All of the teen classes are additionally encouraged to create an independent online group where they can connect outside of class. Both the teen Explorations class and the teen –Ology class have created Discord groups for themselves. I am not on the Discord groups, but we have established a process for students to communicate any concerns with me as they arise.
