Biology for High School

Taught by Rebecca Simpson

Full-Year 32-week Course

Note: 1.5 hr. class

Course Description:

This high school biology class will be taught using a flipped classroom model. Students will do the reading and watch videos as homework prior to class, and in class we will do activities and labs to re-enforce learning and dive deeper into certain topics. Using the CK-12 Biology for High School online textbook as our spine, we will cover topics in cellular biology, evolution, ecology, single celled organisms, plants, and animals (including humans!).

This class is for motivated learners who want to dive into the science of life on earth: how it works, how it has evolved, and how it is all interrelated!

Required Homework:

Each week students will need to read and watch the related videos for the topic assigned that week.

This will be approximately 2 hours of homework each week depending on their reading speed.

Course Materials:

Each week we will be doing activities in class and some will require materials at home. I will send a materials list at least 2 weeks prior. Materials will mostly be household items and I will do my best to provide alternatives when items are less common. For example, maybe you don’t have pipettes, but you have an eye dropper! Also, if you have a microscope at home, we’ll use those for a class, but if not, I will share magnified images on screen so no one is left out.
