Full-Year 32-week Course
Course Description:
Join our small-group writing class as we continue to apply our Writing Revolution-based Writing 1 and Writing 2 skills to writing paragraphs that explore or are inspired by the literature being read and discussed in
English Lit: Genre. The books and literary criticism read for English Lit will also serve as mentor texts to further expand our repertoire of writing tools.
We will typically be spending one class on each of the following in rotation:
1: Sentence Combining
2: Paragraph outlining
3: Paragraph writing
Sentence combining gives us the opportunity to practice working with a given text in a scaffolded way. Discussing and workshopping paragraph outlines gives us the opportunity to refine our claims, ideas, details,
and conclusions before sitting down to write the paragraph. Finally, workshopping the final versions of our paragraphs gives us the opportunity to see where we can improve our technique.
NOTE: This course requires instructor permission to register and is open to those who have successfully completed Writing 2: Academic Paragraphs or the equivalent and are also registering for English Lit:
Genre. The class will be capped at 6 learners.
*A typical English course from middle school through to the end of high school requires both a literature component and a writing component. Our courses are designed to enable you to choose the best combination for your learner’s needs.
